A University of Sussex alumna, I returned to Sussex to work in Research and Enterprise Services in 2019.

I bring experience from a varied career with me, to work with Researchers (both early career and established) and with Professional Services colleagues with the aim of helping both individuals and the Institution thrive.

- Following my undergrad at Sussex, I undertook a PhD in Cell Biology at the NIMR (now absorbed into the Crick Institute), then spent 10 years working at SmithKline Beecham/GlaxoSmithKline as a life-sciences bench researcher, matrix-, line-, project- and collaborations manager specializing in novel technologies for predictive toxicology and early stage R&D. I got to work with with some great people and "play" with some amazing emerging technologies (or pieces of kit being cobbled together to become technologies - including "mini" ToF MS, multiphoton lasers, and microfluidic devices!)

- In 2007 I joined Imperial College London for 6 months to perform a technology transfer of some cells-on-beads work, and stayed (in one form or another) for almost 10 years! Initially I worked incubating the technology to potentially take forward to a start-up, then set up and ran the Drug Discovery screening lab before moving to a more project manager role working with various academics across the College.

- In 2013 I moved into Researcher Development - using my knowledge and experience to help researchers consider their careers and develop their skill-set whatever path they might wish to pursue - academia, "industry", start-ups, government....

- After a short stint of freelancing (both as a trainer and as a consultant helping to set up the Imperial College "Enterprise Lab"), I said goodbye to the commute to London and moved to the University of Surrey (where I worked a Careers Consultant for ECRs and PhDs) for 2 year before returning to Sussex - initially as a Research Staff Officer.

- In the summer of 2020, as many people have done, I reconsidered my work/life balance and decided to move to part-time working. I moved roles internally, and re-embraced my "logical"/numerate skillset to became a Research Metrics Analyst (now Research Intelligence Advisor) where I am working happily in a small, dedicated team.
