I work part-time on a Tuesday and a Thursday 2024-25. Please email me for an appointment: rcw28@sussex.ac.uk OR please come to my office hour 1200-1300 on Tuesdays during term time in the autumn semester of 2024.
I lead the MA Education 'Provocative Pedagogies' on a Tuesday between 0900-11200 from Sept. 24, 2024 - Dec. 3rd. 2024. This module links explicitly to my research knowledge and interests. These focus on the theory/practice intersections of the purposes of education especially in relation to the democratic, transformative planetary sustainability possibilities of education for the uncertain times within which we seek to thrive and strive for social justice for human and more-than-human species alike.
Prior to completing a PhD (supervised by Emeritus Professor Valerie Hey and Professor Linda Morrice) in 2014, and taking up an academic position in the same year, I had had a career as a teacher, lecturer, teacher trainer and education adviser in England and Wales. My work had been in an advisory capacity within schools in South Wales, promoting issues of equity, inclusion and achievement. Much of my own expertise drew on my English As An Additional Language (EAL) knowledge acquired through working for Cardiff Local Education Authority as an EAL/EDI advisor, and my MA in Education, in bilingualism and race equality.
I have been nominated for the following Teaching Excellence awards from the University of Sussex:
