TEACHING & SUPERVISION SUMMARy

As a teacher (Professor in Environmental Economics), I have been conducting teaching to master’s and Ph.D. students at the University of Liverpool (School of Environmental Sciences), UK during 2006-2010. Primarily, I taught Economics of Climate Change to master’s students. I taught several papers on Project Appraisal (Benefit Cost Analysis), Quantitative Techniques (Econometrics), Macroeconomics (intermediate and advance) and Environmental Economics (advance) to Ph.D. and master’s students in the University of Delhi (1993-2006).

My teaching is based on fine blend of classic textbooks, research papers and wherever reports from grey literation (publications from the global bodies and credible ministries of the government). I have always attempted to link the theory with the practice with real world problems.  I have successfully brought the practical nuances of policies to the students once the standard theory is completed. That provides students the much-needed insight about why they are doing what they are doing!

My core competencies are thought leadership and analytics  in the areas of facets of sustainability science (natural capital, biodiversity, Carbon Neutral, Net Zero, adaptation finance, land degradation, planetary health and human health nexus, beyond GDP as measure of progress and wellbeing) combined with poverty, agricultural productivity ,  adaptation to climate change, Nature Based Solutions and  strategic oversight on integration of climate in project (ex - ante as well as posterior analysis), knowledge management,  capacity development, country advisory engagement with government and science community.

I have led the work on natural capital, nature-based solutions, climate finance, inclusive wealth, financing of SDGs, restoration finance, and human and planetary health in UNEP during 2010-2026.

I have also taught environmental and social safeguards of the project and policies in Asia and Africa for infrastructure projects in Boston College, Boston and Sussex Business School. Classroom teaching and contact hours including preparation for research project especially in environmental economics and project management have been very rewarding for me.

Most of my work in the present and for last 25 years have been on developing pathways to bring sustainability closer to decision support systems and mainstreaming climate change, carbon neutrality and net zero into development finance and financing of the SDGs.

I have also supervised Doctoral students in the University of Liverpool, UK. I have continuous been invited by the Universities in UK, USA, Spain and India as external examiner for the Ph.D. students. For example, I have evaluated and functioned as examiner for Ph.D. Students in Economics and Environmental Management in UAB Barcelona, Imperial College London and Indian Institute of Management Kolkata, to name a few.

Bringing the latest from global environmental policies like climate biodiversity and pollution provide unique set of skills to students and prepare them for the real-world issues, challenges and problems.

I have always been rated as A++ for my classroom teaching.

When working in the University of Liverpool,  I have produced three successful Ph.D. students.
