BIO
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Design at the University of Sussex, and a Long-term Visiting Academic at the University of Oxford.
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Manchester, and completed my DPhil in Materials at the University of Oxford in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Grant FREng. Following this, I worked as a postdoc and later as a senior researcher at Oxford before joining Sussex.
My expertise lies in materials engineering, with a focus on metallic material design, processing, and characterisation, particularly for applications in the transport and energy sectors. Centred around sustainability and decarbonisation, my research spans three key areas: (i) Understanding phase transformations during materials processing, combining synchrotron X-ray imaging and advanced electron microscopy; (ii) Materials upcycling and high-value reuse; (iii) Novel material design and manufacturing for hydrogen applications. My projects are highly collaborative, involving leading industrial partners and national synchrotron facilities.
