BIO

Dr Ming Huang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Design at the University of Sussex (March 2025-present) and an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London.

 

Prior to joining Sussex, he was a Research Associate in the Non-Destructive Evaluation Group at Imperial College London, where he also completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2021) with Professors Michael Lowe FREng and Peter Cawley FRS FREng. He previously served as a Research Engineer at Dongfang Electric Corporation's R&D Centre (2013-2016) after earning his master's (2013) and bachelor's (2010) degrees in Solid Mechanics from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China.

 

Dr Huang develops innovative ultrasonic technologies for non-destructive materials characterisation and monitoring to enhance material health, safety and longevity. His expertise expans microstructure characterisation of polycrystalline materials and quantitative monitoring of Li-ion batteries, with current research extending into metal additive manufacturing and hydrogen storage applications.
