Kamakshi is a doctoral candidate in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex. Her work focuses on social justice, equity, and the empowerment of marginalised communities, drawing on postcolonial, anti-caste, and feminist perspectives. Her research and professional interests centre on the intersections of caste, gender, religion, youth rights, and access to education.

With over ten years of experience working with NGOs and government partnerships, she has worked across education, youth rights, research, community-based interventions, and policy engagement. As a Dalit researcher from the Devadasi community, her academic and professional work brings together research, lived experience, and community engagement. She is the head of Aware India, where she works with young people and communities to support leadership, collective action, and social transformation.

She is also a Trustee of Hanate Trust, Hosapete, Karnataka, India, contributing to initiatives focused on community development, education, and social justice. She has also worked as a Research Assistant on the Karnataka Devadasi Act, 2025, supporting research, policy analysis, and the development of the legislation concerning the rights and welfare of Devadasi communities.

Her doctoral research is funded by the Government of Karnataka through the Dr B. R. Ambedkar International Scholarship for SC/ST Students (Prabuddha Overseas Scholarship).
