My primary research interests, particularly in my first year, lie in the phenomenon of overcriminalisation and normative theories of criminalisation, with a specific focus on the Chinese context. Beyond this, I maintain a wide-ranging academic interest in criminal law and the criminal justice system. Rather than confining my work to isolated research fields or a single jurisdiction, my research examines how criminal law intersects with, reflects, and shapes the wider world, including history, politics, economics, culture, religion, warfare, and colonialism, as well as geography and the natural environment. From this perspective, I identify myself firmly as a socio-legal criminal law scholar. However, my approach remains methodologically inclusive; I actively engage in traditional doctrinal analysis (legal dogmatics) and comparative legal research to offer a more nuanced, multidimensional framework for understanding law in society.
