Dr. Leila Yousefi is currently a faculty member in the school of Engineering and Informatics at the University of Sussex, with research interests in the field of Nano-Photonics and Electromagnetic Metamaterials. She has years of experience in conducting research in the field of Applied Electromagnetics and Photonics from RF all the way up to THz, and optical frequencies for different applications including Wireless Communications, Renewable Energy, Advanced Imaging and Sensing, and invisibility cloaking.  

She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, performing research on metamaterials, miniaturized antennas, electromagnetic bandgap structures, and MIMO systems. In 2011, she joined the Integrated Optics Lab in Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (MD, USA), as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where she worked in the field of Nanophotonics, and Plasmonics till 2013. From 2017 till 2020, she collaborated with the University of Waterloo, as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. In 2013, she joined the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, as an Assistant Professor, and later as a tenured Associate Professor. She worked in the University of Tehran till 2024, when she moved to the UK and joined the University of Sussex as a faculty member.
