TEACHING & SUPERVISION SUMMARy

I teach Industrial and Innovation Policy (IIP) and Project and Policy Evaluation. IIP is a module that straddles innovation studies and economics to critically assess the market failures governments can address through industrial and innovation policies. We study these policies in different contexts, drawing on theoretical models and empirical evidence, discuss pitfalls and why policies may fail, as well as wider intended and unintended consequences of policies on workers, the environment and businesses.

The evaluation module is a practical module that combines theory and practice of policy evaluation - how to plan, implement and advocate for evaluation - with statistical exercises to apply quantitative evaluation techniques using examples for science and technology and climate policy.

I also supervise masters students, mainly on the Science and Technology MSc.

I am always interested in supervising PhD dissertations in the areas of innovation policy, industrial policy, local economic growth, technological change and employment and would be happy to discuss with outstanding candidates.
