Nick is currently working with Dr Charlotte Rae in the Sussex 4 Day Week team. Nick's work focuses on effects of working hours on brain function, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). This includes analysis of data from the UK Biobank, as well as from participants in businesses transitioning to a 4-day working week.

Nick's work at Sussex has also foucsed on ways of measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data analysis. This work is motivated by a recent push for scientists to reflect on how their research activities contribute to the climate crisis, and understand how this impact can be reduced.

Nick is the Green DiSC representative within the S4DW team. This is a digital sustainability certification scheme providing a roadmap for users to tackle the environmental impact of their computing.

Nick's completed his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience & Neuroimaging at the University of York. Here, Nick studied the intersection of semantic cognition with the processing of emotion and reward. This included the use of both cognitive neuropsychology methods with patients with post-stroke semantic impairment, and fMRI with neurologically healthy adults.
