BIO

I am an interdisciplinary doctoral researcher and artist based in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex. I am affiliated with the Sussex Colour Group, the Sussex Baby Lab (led by Professor Anna Franklin), and the Nature and Development Lab (led by Dr Alice Skelton).

My academic journey began with a BA in Fine Arts from Durban University of Technology in South Africa, before transitioning to psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. I later completed an MSc in Psychology of the Arts, Neuroaesthetics, and Creativity at Goldsmiths, University of London. Prior to my PhD, I worked as a research assistant at the University of Cambridge, investigating the impact of art museum engagement on cognitive and affective states.

My current research explores infant visual perception and developmental aesthetics. Using methods such as eye-tracking, pupillometry, and image analysis, I study which visual features (e.g., colour, patterns, shapes, and edges) in images and real-world scenes babies are most drawn to. Positioned at the intersection of cognitive psychology, infant vision, and experimental aesthetics, my work aims to uncover the extent to which adult aesthetic responses to images and scenes can be traced back to early sensory biases in infancy.
