I joined the University of Sussex in 2022. My research focuses on the constitutional protection for religious freedom and its intersections with theories of harm, secularism, equality, social justice, feminist legal theory, and constitutionalism. Through my teaching experience, I have also developed a growing interest in critical approaches to the law of property.

I teach Public Law, Land Law, Canadian Constitutional Law, Aboriginal Law, and Foundations of Canadian Law. I am happy to supervise PhD students working in the areas of law and religion, Canadian constitutional law, Aboriginal law, and theories of harm.

Before arriving at Sussex, I earned a PhD from UCL in 2020, writing my thesis on conceptions of harm in the Canadian constitutional adjudication of religious freedom. I also taught courses in Land Law and Equity & Trusts at UCL, and Property Law at the London School of Economics. I was supported in my postdoctoral research by a Modern Law Review Early Career Fellowship and in my PhD by a Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Fellowship, a Modern Law Review Scholarship, and a UCL Faculty of Laws Research Scholarship.

While at UCL Laws, I worked as a Researcher helping to compile the Faculty’s successful application for an Athena SWAN Bronze award, which recognized its efforts to promote gender equality. I also co-founded and ran the UCL Laws Feminist Book Club, a friendly network of feminists who met once a month to discuss a work of fiction, open to all students, staff, and faculty.

Prior to my PhD I worked as a Research Assistant at the Law Commission of England & Wales with the Public Law team and volunteered at the Battersea Law Centre (London), working on housing and social welfare law. Shortly before moving to the UK I worked for a year as a Judicial Law Clerk to Hon. Justice Louis LeBel at the Supreme Court of Canada.

I hold an LLB from the University of British Columbia, Canada (gold medalist) and a BA in Psychology and English Literature from the University of Ottawa, Canada (gold medalist). I’m a non-practicing member of the Law Society of Ontario.

Over the years I have held a wide range of jobs, mainly in the public sector - everything from outreach support with refugee organizations and supply teaching at primary schools to working in a children’s museum, public library, and innumerable coffee shops. I sing (not particularly well!) with the Nunhead Community Choir in London and force my poor children to attend all of our gigs.
