Dr Aimilia Vareli is a postdoctoral researcher in cancer systems biology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). She completed her PhD in the laboratory of Professor Simon Mitchell at BSMS, where her doctoral research examined NF-κB signalling dynamics in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Her research programme focuses on dissecting how tumour microenvironment-derived cues shape NF-κB signalling states and downstream survival decisions in B-cell malignancies. By integrating experimental approaches with mathematical modelling, she investigates how signalling network dynamics are rewired in response to microenvironmental inputs and how these processes contribute to therapeutic resistance.

Alongside her postdoctoral role, Dr Vareli has recently secured her first independently funded Principal Investigator grant to generate pilot data investigating NF-κB-Wnt crosstalk in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, supported by the Sussex Cancer Research Centre (SCRC) and the Sussex Cancer Fund (SCF). She collaborates with national and international partners, with the overarching aim of translating mechanistic insight into therapeutically relevant understanding in cancer.
