I joined the Sussex Centre for Language Studies as a Lecturer in Spanish in 2019, having taught previously at the Universities of Leicester, Essex and Surrey. Before that, I taught Spanish language and literature at the City Literary Institute in London for many years. I completed my PhD thesis, ‘Wealth and Poverty in Restoration Spain: A Critique of Liberal Society in the Novelas Contemporáneas of Benito Pérez Galdós’, in 2017. This thesis won the 2017 Peter Bly Award for the best thesis on Galdós or other nineteenth-century Spanish writers and was published by Boydell and Brewer in 2018 under the title Rich and Poor in Nineteenth-Century Spain: A Critique of Liberal Society in the Later Novels of Benito Pérez Galdós.

At Sussex, I teach and convene a variety of Spanish language and cultural modules. In addition, I hold the roles of Exams Officer for Modern Languages and Academic Misconduct Investigating Officer for the School of Media, Arts, and Humanities.
