BIO
Paven was appointed as a lecturer in 2019 and is committed to engaging students in the study and practice of Law.
After completing her academic and vocational training, Paven worked as a trainee solicitor for a national commercial firm and then qualified as a solicitor specialising in Family Law. Paven made the shift into legal education in 2014 when she was appointed as a lecturer at BPP University. She continued to engage in Family Law practice through her work with BPP's Pro Bono clinic and co-authored a Family Law textbook in 2017.
Since joining the University of Sussex, Paven's teaching has focused on undergraduate modules including Public Law, Tort Law, ELS and JES. She also leads the Family Law Clinic where final year students gain real legal work experience advising clients and supporting litigants in person at Brighton Family Court.
In terms of scholarship, Paven is interested in clinical legal education and especially its potential to enable access to the legal profession and build professional skills, confidence and professional identity. Paven is enthusiastic about helping students to develop employability skills and believes that the legal profession should be (but is not yet) accessible to all.
