BIO
I am an Associate Tutor and Research Assistant within the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) and the Harvard Sussex Programme. My research is predominantly empirically driven theory of innovation in biotechnology, specifically regarding psychopharmacology and chemical and biological weapons. I currently lead a funded project examining documentation of AI use in chemical weapons, which involves building bibliometric networks to map emerging risks. My work regularly interrogates how scientific inputs and outputs are classified and interpreted, and how these negotiations of boundaries influence policy-making and society. I have presented my research at international venues including the EUSPRI Annual Conference and the Einstein Forum, and I have worked in a policy consultant role for the UK Committee on Research Integrity (UKCORI), where I led a review on the enablers and inhibitors of research integrity.
I completed my PhD at the University of Sussex in 2025, studying with Ohid Yaqub and Paul Nightingale. My thesis examined the role of serendipity in psychopharmacology research and development. This research, funded through an ERC Serendipity in Research and Innovation grant, drew on a variety of methods including detailed case study, bibliometric analysis, and qualitative coding to problematise notions of unexpected discovery. Prior to my doctoral studies, I earned an MPsych (Cum Laude) in the Theory and History of Psychology and a BSc in Psychology (Cum Laude) from the University of Groningen. I maintain a strong commitment to teaching, currently leading postgraduate seminars on science, technology, and innovation policy, and I have extensive experience teaching statistics, research methods, and academic skills
