I am a human geographer who works on the critical geographies of climate change and development, with a particular focus on climate and disaster finance. 

My research has centred on climate and disaster risk financing and insurance (CDRFI), which includes mechanisms such as insurance, risk pooling, and debt pauses in the context of intensifying climate risks and financial costs. My work critically analyses how these mechanisms operate and their implications for equitable policy responses to climate change.

I am also interested in the wider political economy of development, including working on an ESRC-funded project Consultants & Contractors in Global Development. Together with colleagues at Cambridge, QMUL, St Andrews and Nottingham, the research produced new evidence about the relationship between the UK's FCDO and the private sector, and how this evolving relationship shaped the rules, norms, and practices of UK funded development activities.

My current research examines the climate disaster–debt–development nexus. This includes an RGS-funded project which examines the adoption of debt-based mechanisms such as pauses and debt swaps for climate and disaster financing in the Caribbean. 

Methodologically, my research combines qualitative approaches, including interviews and policy analysis, with analysis of how climate and disaster financing mechanisms actually work and data visualisation techniques. Theoretically, my work draws on political economy, political ecoloy, economic geography and Science and Technology Studies (STS).

Prior to my PhD, I worked on interdisciplinary and applied research projects on climate risk management and adaptation in East Africa, particularly in Kenya, engaging closely with government, NGOs, and humanitarian organisations. This continues to inform my interest in policy-relevant research and in working at the intersection of human geographies of climate change and climate science.

I teach across Geography and International Development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a particular focus on research-led teaching in climate justice, climate finance, and development. I also serve as the Admissions Tutor for the Department of Geography. Please note that I am on research leave for Autumn Term 2026.
