Wellness Cafes for Law students: creation of an informal space for law students to do art activities, board-games etc and to attend talks from external speakers on 'Breathwork' (by Maria Ninoles) and 'Nutrition' (Lisa McDonald).

Co-convenor of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law-Society of Legal Scholars Annual Workshop on 'Theory in International Law' (co-convening with Dr Richard Collins, Associate Professor in Law, University College Dublin and in conjunction with Dr Jean-Pierre Gauci, Arthur Watts Senior Research Fellow in Public International Law, BIICL). The Theory Workshop entitled ‘Celebrating the “Historical Turn”: International Law in Global History’ included a Keynote from Prof Aoife O’Donoghue (University of Durham) and panel papers from Dr Airton Ribeiro de Silva Jr, Dr Alonso Gurmendi Dunkelberg (Universidad del Pacifico), Dr Charlotte Steinorth, Dr Daniel R Quiroga-Villamarín (Graduate Institute, Geneva), Dr Fé de Jonge (SOAS & Leiden University), Dr Karem Cárdenas Ynfanzón (Graduate Institute, Geneva), Dr Stephen Samuel (University of Reading) and Dr Victor Corzo (Universidad Marista/Universidad Anáhuac).

Co-convenor of the International Law Section for the Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference in University of Exeter (co-convening with Dr Richard Collins, Associate Professor in Law, University College Dublin). Our Keynote was Dr Oisin Suttle, 2019 Birks Prize winner in international law. Dr Suttle (University of Maynooth) presented a fascinating Keynote on the topic of locating authority for international investment law. Our panel speakers included Dr Ronagh McQuigg (Queens University Belfast), Dr Tajudeen Sanni (Nelson Mandela University, South Africa), Dr Mara Revkin (Georgetown University), Dr Chris O’Meara (London School of Economics), Dr Esmé Shirlow (Australian National University), Dr Alexander Gilder (Royal Holloway), Gaiane Nuridzhanian (National University of Kyiv/University College London) and So Yeon Kim (University of Cambridge).

Co-convenor of the International Law Section for the Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference in University of Lancashire, Preston (co-convening with Dr Richard Collins, Associate Professor in Law, University College Dublin). Our Keynotes were Dr Surabhi Ranganathan (University of Cambridge) and Dr Akbar Rasulov (University of Glasgow). Dr Surabhi Ranganathan presented a fascinating opening Keynote on Sea-States, Trash Islands and the Law of the Sea through the lens of critical legal scholarship and Third World approaches to International Law. Dr Akbar Rasulov presented a fascinating closing Keynote on a materialist history of the concept of economic coercion in international law. Our panel speakers included Dr Ralph Wilde (University College London), Dr Niko Pavlopoulos (University College London), Dr Rossana Deplano (University of Leicester), Dr Caleb H Wheeler (Middlesex University), Dr Alessandra Cuppini (University of Strathclyde), Dr Asli Ozcelik-Olcay (University of Glasgow), Benjamin Thorne (University of Sussex), Dr Anna Marie Brennan (University of Waikato), Dr Oisin Suttle (Queens University Belfast) and Dr Esmé Shirlow (Australian National University).

The Theory Workshop entitled ‘Spaces Beyond Sovereignty: Extraterritorial Jurisdiction in International Law’ included Keynotes from Prof Malgosia Fitzmaurice (Queen Mary University London) and Prof Alex Mills (University College London) and panel papers from Prof David M. Ong (Nottingham Trent), Dr Henry Jones (Durham), Dr Thomas Cheney (Northumbria), Dr Jane Rooney (Bristol), Dr Maria Varaki (KCL), Dr Ricardo Pereira (Cardiff), and Prof Mari Takeuchi (Kobe, Japan).

This research project involved field work to both the Irish National Archives and the University College Dublin Archives. Its aim was to produce a far more comprehensive exploration of the Irish Government and its legal team’s involvement in this historical case (due to recent archival releases). This project forms an important part of a larger project on the Ireland v United Kingdom case that explores both Governments’ involvement in this landmark human rights case and will culminate in a co-authored monograph with Prof William Schabas (Professor of International Law, Middlesex University & Leiden University) that will be published by Cambridge University Press.

Summer School on International Law and the Ideal, Erik Carsten Institute of International Law and Human Rights, University of Helsinki. 5 day summer school with lectures given by Dr Surabhi Ranganathan (University of Cambridge), Prof Jan Klabbers (University of Helsinki), Prof Martti Koskennienmi (University of Helsinki) and Prof Andrew Hurrell (University of Oxford).

This involved a research visit (August 2018) to the Library of Trinity College Dublin and the Irish National Archives on a collaborative project (‘Diplomacy and Activism’) with Dr Roja Fazaeli, Associate Professor in Islamic Civilizations, Trinity College Dublin, who is a leading international scholar on Islam, Women’s Rights & Gender. The research outcome is a co-edited book that will be published by Routledge.
