Jo’s research interests lie in the fields of legal education and pedagogy. She has a particular interest in authenticity in assessment, optionality, transitions to university, and the impact of AI on legal education. She recently co-authored (with Verona Ní Drisceoil and Jeanette Ashton) How to Embed Authenticity in Legal Assessments: Responding to Generative AI (Edward Elgar, 2026). In recognition of this work, Jo, Verona, and Jeanette were awarded the ‘Scholarship’ prize at the Sussex Education Awards 2026 for authoring “a rigorously researched and timely book that addresses one of higher education’s most pressing challenges: how to design authentic, fair, and academically robust assessments in the age of generative AI.”

Prior to this, Jo’s research focused on domestic, European, and international banking regulation, as well as transactional banking law and contract law more broadly. Her PhD examined the regulation of international banking in the pre-Basel era, with particular emphasis on the management of the global financial system through inter-state collaboration at financial conferences and the informal cooperative practices of market participants.

Jo is also co-author of Banking Law and Regulation (OUP, 2019), and is currently working with a number of co-authors on a second edition.
