My research interests are in EU economic law and economic governance. I was a founder member of an international research group analysing the Transformation of the State and Markets (ToMaS). This research project has organised a series of international seminars and conferences and publishes a book series, Legal Issues of Services of General Interest with TMC Asser Press. My research focuses upon the use of the EU economic law rules on free movement, competition, state aid and procurement law. I am interested in the processes and actors used in the marketisation processes in the EU, alongside the development of consumer-citizenship concepts.

Inevitably the process of the UK leaving the EU has refocused my research and I am a Fellow of the UK Trade Policy Observatory based in BMec. http://www.sussex.ac.uk/bmec/research/uktpo, undertaking ongoing research and analysis of the implications of Brexit. In "retirement" I am continuing to work on EU trade issues and I have a special interest in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

I am working in the area of sustainability, particular the interaction of competition law and the Circular Economy and The Right To Repair Movement.
