BIO
I am a lecturer in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Brighton & Sussex Medical School. My
research investigates the impact of carrying a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s Disease - the APOE e4 gene variant, on cognition, brain function and structure across the lifespan, and whether we can mitigate the detrimental effects of this gene pharmacologically. In addition, I am interested in how our genes interact with wider health-related (e.g., menopause) and lifestyle factors to influence trajectories of brain ageing.
I have a background in Experimental Psychology; this has been used to design cognitive tasks aimed at early detection of individuals at-risk or in the preclinical/prodromal stages of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Previously I worked at the University of Oxford Big Data Institute, designing and validating digital biomarkers of early dementia, working on the Mezurio smartphone app. I also completed an Alzheimer's Society fellowship, investigating the link between the APOE gene and aberrant brain activity. I have research experience with clinical and healthy populations, and collaborate regularly with NHS healthcare providers, charity organisations and industry (pharmaceutical, technology providers).
