BIO
Phoebe is Professor in Law and Technology and the founding Director of the Sussex Centre for Law and Technology (SCLT) at Sussex University in the UK. Her research interests revolve around intellectual property (IP), regulation of science and technology, development, and international trade. She works with international multi-disciplinary teams addressing legal issues arising from digitisation. She is particularly interested in exploring the convergence and divergence of risk regulation and IP in relation to emerging technologies.
Phoebe is currently working at the ESRC Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP), examining digital trade, data governance and intellectual property in UK trade agreements post-Brexit. She is a Co-Investigator on the UKRI Responsible AI (RAI) Automated Empathy project. She recently concluded the UKRI regulating Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (TAS, @tas_governance) project, focussing on applications of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in healthcare. She is Co-Investigator for the Biomodifying technologies projects funded by the ESRC (BioMod Tech) and the Leverhulme Trust (BioGov), examining the emerging regulatory landscape of gene editing, iPSC and 3D bioprinting.
Phoebe is bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese and is pleased to work with international partners.
