BIO

I am a qualitative researcher studying the implications of the introduction of digital technology for the organisation of work. I explore this question in public and non-for profit types of organisations and I have been particularly interested in healthcare organisations. In the past I have looked into how information technologies shape the modernisation agenda of public administration before moving on to study the implications of health technologies such as EPR for healthcare professional identity and power in primary and secondary healthcare organisations in England. Recent work of mine is positioned in platform work and more specifically the ways in which platforms can mediate and shape healthcare professional work in countries of the Global South. I look into opportunities for re-skilling; capacity building; re-professionalisation but also the inevitable dark side of platforms, including their potential to colonise health knowledge and work, ‘othering’ local context, knowledge and need. In addition to this, I am interested in looking into emerging forms of digital activism (the forms they take and the ways activism becomes manifest) and new notions of citizenship (and their accompanied new set or rights and responsibilities) shaped by the digital context. In my last project I look into how AI mediates the job interview process.

I joined the University of Sussex in September 2011 as a Lecturer in Business and Innovation. I hold a Bachelor in Economics ( Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece), a Master in Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change (Lancaster University), a Master in Philosophy (University of Sussex) and a PhD in Organisation, Work and Technology (Lancaster University). I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning (University of Sussex) and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Before joining Sussex I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

I serve as a Senior Editor of the 'Information Systems Journal' and I am a member of the Editorial Board of the 'New Technology, Work and Employment' and the 'International Journal of Information Management' journals. I have served as an Editorial Board Member of the journal 'Work, Employment & Society' and as an Associate Editor of the 'BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making'.
