Iftikhar Hussain is an associate professor in Economics, with research interests in the economics of education. His research has focused on accountability and governance issues in the education sector, parental education investment and school choice behaviour, the functioning of teacher labour markets, the performance of the Swedish voucher school system, and early childhood education. He regularly engages with policymakers, having served on Ofsted’s inspection methodology expert panel and given evidence to the House of Commons Education Select Committee. Prior to joining Sussex, Iftikhar earned his PhD in Economics from University College London and undertook postdoctoral research at Oxford University.
