I am broadly interested in the cultural and social history of modern European and Jewish history. My work has often taken modern German and Jewish history as a point of departure, yet has consistently cast a wider net. It is based on the premise that it is ordinary people who make the world, advancing a research agenda that acknowledges the full range of human experience. By a careful and close examination of the ways through which people endow the world with meaning, I wish to improve our understanding of the multifaceted interplay between concrete experiences and broad social, political, and economical developments in order to provide a nuanced and balanced approach to things past.
