RESEARCH & SCHOLARSHIP SUMMARy
My research has mostly focused on Palestine in the 19th and 20th centuries and its connections to global history. I am interested in the Arabic-speaking Middle East more broadly, as well as its historical connections to Latin America and other areas of the global south. I also have an interest in the intersections between historical writing and fictional literature. My latest book (The Lives and Deaths of Jubrail Dabdoub), explores these intersections by taking the form of a magical realist novel.
I welcome new proposals for PhD projects on any related areas of research.
PhD topics I have supervised include:
- Palestinian archiving in the digital sphere
- Nablus during the British Mandate in Palestine
- Home and taste in Nasser's Egypt
- Famine in British India
- Mobility and the making of Ramallah during the mandate period
