Where:

I have taught theatre, performance and dance studies at the University of Sussex, University of Roehampton, University of Surrey and Goldsmiths, University of London. I have been invited to lead guest sessions with students and doctoral researchers at Central School of Speech and Drama, the University of Malta and University of California, Riverside.

What:

I teach modules across different subjects, including drama and theatre, dance history and theory, and the study of performance in everyday life including protest and activism. I love working with students in both seminar, discussion-based sessions and through practical explorations in workshops. Across all my teaching I am committed to exploring political ideas with my students and learning together about the different ways art and performance can ask questions of the world we live in.

When teaching, I strive to support LGBTQI+ students, and that includes respecting your gender and pronouns. I am also a member of Drama's student-staff Antiracism Working Group and am committed to working with students in developing antiracist approaches to our education together.

PhD Supervisions and Examinations:

I have supervised or am currently supervising eight PhD projects across the fields of dance theory and history, performance studies, cultural and literary studies, practice-as-research, and critical & creative writing. At Sussex I have worked with five doctoral researchers who have attracted internal scholarships or research council funding for their work. To date I have examined five PhD projects at the following institutions: Central School of Speech and Drama (theatre); Coventry University (dance, including practice-as-research); University College London (art history); University of Sussex (theatre).

For potential PhD students:

I welcome proposals for projects that take up the investigation of choreography or embodied practice in artistic or non-artistic situations. I am especially interested in working with research students who work across disciplines, who are interested in questions of space and place, and whose projects employ sociological, materialist, or anti-colonial thought for the conceptualisation of performance.
