Professor Chakravarthi Rajkumar was appointed in January 2005 as the Chair of Geriatric and Stroke Medicine, Brighton & Sussex Medical School, University of Sussex. To date he has been actively involved in research in the field of Geriatrics and Stroke medicine. He has held various positions in the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Research Network for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He has been Clinical Director, Associate Director for Early Career Development and also Deputy Director for the past 15 years.

He has a wide range of research interests which includes clinical trials in the very elderly, hypertension, vascular compliance, frailty, and hospital acquired infections in the elderly. He has published over 400 abstracts, peer reviewed papers and book chapters on clinical problems in journals including NEJM, The Lancet, JAMA, European Heart Journal and BMJ (more than 200 publications, 16,430 citations, H Index 55, i10-index 116). Professor Rajkumar holds offices in several national and international research organisations. He has been awarded a number of research grants from various charitable organisations including the British Heart Foundation, Dunhill Medical Trust, NIHR (Research for Patient Benefits) and PPP Healthcare. 

He has been external examiner of the MD and PhD thesis for several UK and international Universities. He has supervised 6 PhDs and 2 MDs. He is regularly involved in supervising academic foundation trainees, academic clinical fellows, and other senior academic staff. He was an Associate Editor for the Journal Age & Ageing (Oxford University Press) till 2023 and member of Editorial Boards of other international journals. He has contributed to clinical guideline development for NICE (National Institute Care and Clinical Excellence) and is currently a member of the cardiovascular risk prevention guideline and heart failure management committee. He was elected Distinguished Fellow of the Global Association of Physicians of India Origin (GAPIO) in April 2024.
