I have worked on Literature and Politics in the English Renaissance, especially Republicanism; Spenser and sixteenth-century poetry; Shakespeare; Early Modern Ireland; Travel Writing; National Identity; Colonialism; Britain and Britishness; class and literature; and life writing.

Most recently I have been editing the works of Thomas Nashe with Jennifer Richards, Cathy Shrank and Joe Black, funded by the AHRC, and forthcoming from Oxford University Press. I have recently published Literature and Class from the Peasants Revolt to the French Revolution (Manchester, 2023), and Thomas Nashe and Late Elizabethan Writing (London, 2023). I am working on a second volume on literature and class, from Peterloo to the Present, as well as a study of the world in 1625 with Matthew Dimmock. In the future may well write books on sheep and literature in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a biography of the writer, T. H. White.
