Dom is Professor of Climate Change and Society at the University of Sussex. His research spans issues of development, climate change, disaster risk, migration and health. He uses a variety of methods in his research including quantitative methods such as Systems Dynamics and Agent Based Modelling and qualitative techniques such as Q methodology and serious games. He has been PI or Co-I on grants totalling over £10 million. Through his research he has been asked for advice from the United Nations, the World Bank, the EU, the UK government and the International Organisation of Migration and currently is panel member of the United Nations Environmental Programme International Resource Panel. His work in migration and climate change was recognised with the Royal Geographical Society's Cuthbert Peek award. Dominic’s current research projects include a NERC Knowledge Exchange fellowship with Save the Children around improving children's health in sub-Saharan Africa (2024-2027);  The National Institute for Health and Care Research funded  ASTRA project looking at demand and delivery of health services during and after extreme weater events for people living with HIV and/or TB in southern Africa (2024-2027); the IDRC/FCDO funded Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) project: PASSAGE, looking at facilitating Anticipatory Actions for pastoralists in the horn of Africa (2023-2027) and the Medical Research Foundation funded Evaluation of the Social and Economic impact of Extreme weather Events in people living with HIV (S3E). Dom continues to be an active member of the Lancet Countdown.
