BIO
I obtained my undergraduate degree (BSc Honours in Physics Class I) from the University of Exeter in 1985. I then went on to do a PhD in Astronomy at the University of Cambridge, where my thesis topic was "A bright galaxy catalogue and redshift survey in the Southern Sky".
In 1989 I took up a postdoctoral position at Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories, Australian National University, where I led the Stromlo-APM Redshift Survey.
In 1992 I moved to Fermilab, near Chicago, to work on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. I became an SDSS Builder while at the University of Chicago (1996-2000).
I moved to the University of Sussex in 2000.
