After obtaining my BSc in biochemistry I worked within the NHS as a medical laboratory assistant. I started teaching science privately before being recruited to a small public school, teaching both GCSE and A level Biology and Chemistry. I started teaching in further education and higher education, which culminated in becoming the head of science for the Access to Higher Education department at an FE college. Additionally, I spent five years as an associate lecturer with the Open University, teaching in the faculty of health, which included teaching on undergraduate modules that contributed to their qualifications for paramedical science.

At Sussex I am one of the module convenors for the chemistry modules of the Life Science Foundation Year. I have also taught statistics (using SPSS) to Year 1 students.

My interests include widening participation and the public understanding of science. I hold postgraduate qualifications in science and society, and in communicating science.
